Tips For Your Next Beach Vacation: Heading to the beach can be a very relaxing time for you. The waves, sun and general atmosphere of the beach are enough to help you forget all the stress and responsibilities of your life and escape to a relaxed location, even if It’s only for a short period of time.
If you plan on heading to the beach soon, the following are six travel tips to help you have a successful and enjoyable vacation.
1. Consider traveling during the offseason.
If you’re on a tight budget, it may be a good idea for you to travel to the beach during the offseason. The beaches will be less crowded, and you’ll also be able to enjoy the beach without spending a fortune on airfare or hotels. Sure, the weather may not be as perfect as it is during peak season, but if you go just after peak season, you can still snag some great weather at a very cost-effective price.
2. Pack all the essentials.
There are certain things you will need at the beach, and there are certain things you won’t. Make sure that you’re packing everything you will need for the beach and avoid packing anything you will not need. It’s also a good idea for you to bring items such as sunscreen and beach towels with you instead of buying them on vacation, as most beach establishments jack up their prices because they know travelers will pay. Consider bringing a beach umbrella or pop-up tent too instead of renting. Keep in mind, though, that if you will be flying, you need to adhere to all the safety regulations for your airlines.
3. Know what you need.
Sure, waking up every morning to a gorgeous beach view is nice, but if you’re not going to spend a lot of time in your hotel room, why spend the extra money to see the beach for a few minutes every day? Sometimes you don’t have to spend every last dollar for a spectacular vacation and instead only need to pay for the essentials. If you will basically be using your hotel room to shower and sleep, don’t spend a fortune for a luxury suite if you won’t be able to enjoy it.
4. Be smart with your belongings.
When you’re at the beach, it’s very important that you keep your belongings safe. If you leave your beach bag unattended, you can be sure that someone will swipe it, and now you’ve lost everything you have. Don’t bring all your credit cards and electronics with you to the beach. Instead, place them in a safe at the hotel and only bring the items you’ll absolutely need. Hide cash inside an empty sunscreen or lip balm bottle, and never leave phones or car keys in public view. If you’ll be heading into the water, make sure that one person stays back by your belongings to keep an eye on everything.
5. Stay hydrated and protected.
The sun’s rays provide enough heat to make you sick, literally. Make sure that if you’re spending the day in the sun you’re constantly staying hydrated. Bring bottles of water with you to the beach, and don’t consider alcoholic beverages as a means for staying hydrated.
You also need to make sure you’re applying an appropriate level of sunscreen regularly. Be sure to read the directions on the sunscreen to ensure you’re applying it correctly and reapplying it correctly. This will help you avoid sunburn. If you do become sunburned, it’s a good idea to have aloe and vitamin E on hand. This will help to soothe your burns. Plus, be sure to wear loose cotton clothing to keep from irritating the burn.
6. Consider a less busy locale.
If you don’t want to fight tourists for a spot on the beach and instead want a nice relaxing vacation, it’s a good idea to look to travel to a less-busy destination. The Lesser Antilles Islands of the Caribbean are a great choice for a relaxing beach vacation, as they’re not extremely popular or overcrowded. This way, you’ll be able to visit the beach and do some sightseeing without having to fight a crowd. Plus, hotels and airfare to these locations tend to be much cheaper than popular locations, making them more relaxing AND better for your budget.
