You have been signed up to a number of travel rewards schemes for some time and you have booked free flights to your chosen holiday destination, but when you get there that dreaded feeling that can often occur on holiday descends; holiday ennui or, if you prefer, boredom.
Boredom is a psychological process that happens when you cease being interested in your current surroundings. Boredom occurs when you are prevented from doing what you would like to do; when you have to do something that you really don’t want to do; and when for no apparent reason you just lose interest.

Some people are more prone to boredom than others. People who find it difficult to pay attention are often those who tend to get bored easily, and people who take a keen interest in life and what is going on around them are rarely bored. But when boredom hits you when you should be having holiday fun, it is important to do something about it.
One of the reasons you are bored could be that you are tired. Tiredness on holiday can occur for a number of reasons. The journey might be tiring, and you might be tired just because you have switched off from your usual activities. It is not at all unusual for people with stressful jobs to spend the first week of their holidays napping. So the first thing you should do is get some rest; don’t worry that you are missing out on the fun that everybody else is enjoying; just put your feet up and go to sleep if you can and you are far more likely to enjoy the rest of your holiday.
As we are all aware, positive thought can be a powerful ally, so think positively. Ultimately we are all in charge of our own thoughts, so take control and turn your boredom around. This might seem difficult, but it is much easier to do than it seems, and once you have mastered the art you will be able to turn your life and your travel rewards around.
Another way of overcoming boredom is by embracing it. Boredom can be beneficial and it can be the spur to creativity and inspiration. Boredom is the fuel that fires many writers and artists and by turning the mind a little inwards creates space in which you are able to think deeply.
So, a little rest, some positive thinking and the realisation that boredom is not necessarily that bad might be all you need.
